Tenebrae 2012 Dates

Every year during the Lenten season, alumni of SMCS both direct and participate in Tenebrae services in the Greater Toronto area and beyond. The first Tenebrae service outside the GTA took place in 2008 in the nation's capital of Ottawa at the Cathedral Basilica of Notre Dame.

Tenebrae is a part of the tradition of attending SMCS and is the single annual service that brings together the alumni and the school's current high school students every year to sing in St. Michael's Cathedral. Away from the Cathedral, several alumni direct their own Tenebrae Services in their respective parishes and all alumni are invited to participate. It has become a time for alumni to catch up and participate in the single activity that binds all choir boys together ... music.

The SMCS Alumni Choir is made up of graduates from all generations and new faces are always welcome to attend concerts and join in the singing. It performs regularly thorughout the Christmas season with what have now become annual Christmas concerts and also during the Lenten season for Tenebrae.

If you are interested in reacquainting yourself with your fellow classmates or just hangout with other choir boys to sing Tenebrae this Lent, please attend any or all of the rehearsals and services that will be listed on this site. Contact information and Google maps for all locations will be provided on this site when the 2011 dates become available. Please note that it is now mandatory to attend the rehearsal prior to the Tenebrae service at St. Michael's Cathedral. If you do not attend the rehearsal you will be politely asked to not sing. However, you are always welcome attend the service in the Cathedral and attend the reception in the Choir School auditorium following the service.

PLEASE COME OUT AND JOIN IN THIS WONDERFUL TRADITION AND GIFT OF SINGING
